Straight answers
The questions people ask most, answered plainly. Type below to narrow them down.
Is AutoFilter free?
Yes. There's no account and no sign-up.
Which sites does it work on?
AutoTrader UK search results only: pages whose address starts with autotrader.co.uk/car-search. It doesn't run on individual car pages or any other site.
Where do the price labels come from?
AutoTrader. AutoFilter doesn't price cars itself; it reads the label AutoTrader already shows on each listing. The guide explains what each label roughly means.
Does it collect my data?
No. AutoFilter makes no network requests of its own, and your settings stay on your device. The privacy notice has the detail.
I've set a filter but nothing is being hidden. Why?
Check that you're on a search results page (autotrader.co.uk/car-search), that the popup shows On rather than Paused, and that you pressed Apply to page. If AutoTrader was already open when you installed or updated AutoFilter, reload the tab.
Some cars disappeared that I didn't filter out. Why?
They're probably write-off category cars (Cat A, B, C, D, S or N). They're hidden by default. Turn on Show write-off category cars in the popup to see them.
Why do I see so few Higher price cars?
AutoTrader rarely uses that label in normal search results, so showing only Higher price can leave very few cars.
Why does the count keep going up?
AutoTrader loads more results as you scroll, and AutoFilter counts and filters each new batch as it arrives.
The status bar says “Layout changed”. What does that mean?
AutoTrader has changed its page in a way AutoFilter can't fully read, so some listings may not filter. Please let us know so it can be fixed.
How do I see every listing again quickly?
Press Turn off filtering on the status bar, or switch the popup to Paused. Your choices are kept for when you switch back on. Reset shows everything and clears your choices.
Is AutoFilter made by AutoTrader?
No. It's an independent extension and isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Auto Trader Limited.
How do I remove it?
Go to chrome://extensions, find AutoFilter and click Remove. Its saved settings are removed with it.
